Our Bunny magic videos

Gareth: Hi Paul its a pleasure , just wondering if you will be checking our file share room and seeing some of our own pieces of magic , would be nice to have a comment or two from the legendary Paul Daniels.

Paul Daniels: AAARRGGHH... only after this lot is finished maybe. I'm a working guy with not much spare time.

Advice on starting out

Docster: Hi Paul, can you tell me the best way of starting out as a magician?

vPaul Daniels: Yes... buy my How to Make Money by Magic course! To a major degree, that is not a joke. There are lots of ways to be a magician and it all depends how far you want to take the hobby or business.

I like the concept of reading as many books as you can, making notes, and REALLY thinking the tricks through so that you UNDERSTAND them thoroughly.

Simple...

JonFrog: Red Backed or Blue Backed?

Paul Daniels: It depends what the background colour is! For real!

Close-up or stage?

Rvoice100: Which have you had most fun practising and polishing? When did you first start to practise properly.

Paul Daniels: I cannot recall ever 'practising'... I used to just play with my toys. ALL aspects of this game were given the same amount of attention, it's just that stage demands that you fully understand theatre, lighting and sound systems as well.

The Double Lift

Wiffyboy: Your DVD "Inner Secrets of Professional Magic" was a real inspiration to me years a go when I was in the "thick" of learning the basic sleights etc

One sleight taught on that DVD has stuck with me ever since - Your Double lift. The one where you open and close the cards as if they were a page of a book. I loved it! And what’s more it works for me!

Do you still use it? Have you modified it?

May I also say that the idea to shoot that video "informally" etc was a great decision. For some reason it added to the whole package!

One last thing, you got any plans to head over Leeds way in the near future?

Paul Daniels: Hey.. that double lift originally came from a chemist in Leeds...John Pennington and it has served me well. In practice I use several ways to achieve such a lift, just so they don't know what to look for.

I'm not planning on being near Leeds in the immediate future.

Gregor: That reminds me about a one-liner that I use: "...the best thing about Leeds is the road out..." and I was born and brought up there!

Paul Daniels: Terrible line... 'cos no matter where you go you will find there are nice people and bad people. I find that just about everywhere is the same after you have been there awhile. Leeds is a really good place to meander around or head out into the country.

You've Been Famed

Mystifieruk: Freddie Starr lives close to me. He can very occasionally be seen around town but never without a small group of hangers-on and the odd “Aye up Freddie” bellowed from across the street from some thumbs-up youngster.

It is hard to imagine what it would be like to not be able to go anywhere in public without people nudging one another or to not have the option of going somewhere and being completely anonymous. TV light entertainers must be the worst sufferers.

Yours must have been a peculiar life in that sense. Has that been tough to deal with?

Paul Daniels: Nope. I like people and stop and talk to them or wave or whatever. If I am in a hurry then it's head down and walk fast!
