Free speech alive and well in the USA!

Yep. And I'm sure that president Bush had something to do with it, too.

Always good to get in a cheap shot against the US. Feel good, does it?

Mike.

We are still waiting for evidence. For me, I have no clue what exactly the amount of damage is.

Knowing Penguin, it must be quite big. Also, Jay has stated that he had tried to talk to them about the problem, so, they must have already started doing damage from quite a long time!

Magic Cafe tends to be very conservative about what discussion it allows. It's just the management style there, so rather unfair comment about USA.

You may interpret it as a cheap shot - but it's factual remember, the two US forums delete the posts, the two UK forums allow it.

And it's the US that makes a BIG deal out of the importance of freedom of speech - which is why those two acts of censorship appear to contradict that (in a small way obviously but it highlights the point).

As for Bush - he's clearly the last person that has 'freedom of speech'.

Anyway - lets not start arguments here eh?

Looks like this thread is headed towards politics

Perhaps they were deleting the threads because of some affiliation with Penguin?

I was thinking of posting Jay's 'newsletter' hear but discovered that I was only abou 5 hours too late!

It might not have exactly the same appeal to a non-magical audience but wouldn't it be GREAT to have a new TV programme 'THE MASKED MAGIC DEALER REVEALS'. :D

Penguin deleted it for obvious reasons. Magic cafe doesn't like to get involved in anything political or contentious. You can't even discuss religion or politics there without it getting zapped. The fact they are both in the US I reckon is coincidence.

So they consistently restrict your freedom of speech - even worse!

Yet their site is quite literally covered in ads.

Thats well funny.
I also was about to post this newsletter. It was only a matter of time really wasn't it. I wonder if they'll be selling at Blackpool this year, they did last year. I would they wouldn't as Jay was a lecturer last year, and hopefully ties are still strong.
Anyway, lets just forget penguin, anyone on these boards have a favurate magic dealer by any chance. I wonder who it'll be, hmmm.
You need to think outside of the box people. lol

Re the cafe: It's just Steve Brooks. He's got certain ideas how to do things, and they are not always from the majority viewpoint. Still it's his forum and he runs it as he sees fit.

Back on topic, I'm not really suprised about all this controversy surrounding Penguin. It's hardly new is it? Everyone knows they rip off effects and their ethics in this respect are less than white.

Mr Sankey has got invloved with them in spite of them saying early on "We don't cheat our friends" (implying that they DO cheat others). So what does he expect? He went in knowing that much, which prompts the question:

If you believe someone to be suspect, then why deal with them in the first place? Surely dealing with someone you know is suspect is wrong.

Always - a quote that often comes to mind:

I am pleased Jay has at least spoken out and highlighted the matter for others to take seriously.

When I noticed he was no long exclusive to penguin, I knew something was afoot.

Penguin have had a rough year and I think this may be the straw that broke the camels back!
