Ron Bauer

Bcervon: Mr. Bauer,
It is with great pleasure I read your comments.
Bruce Cervon

Pchosse: Hey there old fella!

It is GREAT to hear the stories of Marlo that are out there, but buried, and rarely told. I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to have met Ed, thanks to you. (For those of you who don't know, RB and Ed were friends for 30+ years). I first met Ed Marlo, and then visited with him several times in three magic-packed days in 1990, I think it was. Each time I was in the company of RB, and sometimes other people were along (Racherbaumer, Don Alan, etc.).

Hey Ron, remember knocking on the door at 2:00AM? There's Ed, in his robe, cigar dangling, cards in hand, watching magic videos and making notes! And I remember being in awe at the thought of waking the "Legend" up to do card tricks at that time of the night/morning. Muriel was curiously unphased, ("Oh, hi Ron! How nice to see you, Ed's in the other room. Would you boys like something to drink?", or something along those lines...) and, there you were laughing at my innocence and showing me what a great time you could have with these "regular guys", ( Ed and Don Alan on this occasion). I'd made the mistake of thinking magic guys like this were unapproachable. See, I bought into the "magic elite" BS, which was not their view at all!

I got to see Ed do tricks in that affable style you describe so well, to see that, contrary to some folks perceptions, he was a terrific entertainer and genuinely enjoyed performance. The creative part of Ed's personality is the stuff we get the benefit of through his writing, and that's great too! Finally, I understood, thanks to you again, that Ed didn't write all those methods for credits' sake, but because he REALLY WAS a Cardician, exploring every avenue for it's own sake. I remember sitting in the restaurant, all of us, and I asked about a trick. Ed showed me about half a dozen versions, not to show me how many he knew, but to find one that suited me. And, when I said, "oh, that's it, that's the one..." he stopped!
He had accomplished his "mission", to share his magic with another guy who wanted to do some card tricks. What a wonderful experience that trip was - thanks tons!

MagicSamX: I was just looking back over my career in Magic so far and there are things I would change if I have the chance.

Do you ever look back and wish you had not done something?

RBauer: Look forward, Sam. You've achieved the wisdom to make the best of it.

Michael Jay: Ron, you talk extensively about "tells" and getting rid of them...Could you explain?

RBauer: "Tells" are actions (handlings) that "tell" the audience that something is amiss, such as adjusting the deck before turning over a card "tells" that you are most likely doing something else.

That may seem obvious, but that is because this definition only scratches on the surface of the importance of this aspect of hiding secret actions.

Sardini: RB,

I saw your newspaper tear video. You look a lot younger than I was expecting. Do you always talk that fast? BTW, if you lived here in the south, people would know you were a yankee, right away. It's not because of your accent. It's because you use proper english. And that's all I got to say about that.

Whah, it's cotton, suh!

PS. I'll tell your mother-in-law, over thar in Memphis, that you said, "Hey". BTW, she said you're a "Hunk of Burnin' Love".

Love you, mean it.

RBauer: Great Sardine...

There's something fishy about your post.

I suspect you've been smoking that cotton instead of the trout.

BTW I ain't got on noozepapper video. That is some other guy.

PS I recommend you stay out of comedy.

PPS And if I keep sending replies like this one, I recommend the same course for me!

Sardini: Yo! Yo!
I guess the "jig" is up.
You're the best Pops!

Sean: An entertaining question...

Have you ever had any streakers (ie, naked people) interrupt a magic show?

RBauer: Have you ever noticed that streakers are invariably men?

At least that has been my experience.

Michael Jay: You mean you've never attended the yearly "Running" at Ann Arbor? Ah, well, you may have missed your chance - I hear they shut it down finally last year. What a b****r, eh?

RBauer: Those displaying their youthful exuberance in Ann Arbor aren't officially considered streakers here in the states. Such an exhibition, however, might have somewhat shaken my concentration while performing, say, Dixie! (That's #7 in the RBPS Series, you know.)

Darmoe: I vaguely recall the tale of someone that streaked through the Palace of Mystery (main room of the Magic Castle) when Peter Pit was on stage... don't recall who it was (and wouldn't say if I knew), but it was supposedly a "noted" individual.

I do know of a noted female comic as well as a female magician that did a strip tease and lap dance session at the main bar one evening (after hours)

If the walls of that place could talk... gesh!

RBauer: I refuse to admit to anything!

PS There IS a wall that talks... or does it LISTEN?! Alas, I have forgotten...

There's a lot of things in that old mansion that both, talk & listen... (never did trust Erma to keep a secret)

I am very grateful for your support in visiting these forums and providing a thoroughly unique insight into the art of magic and I would like to offer you a most earnest "thank you" for your input to these boards. I do hope that you may have enjoyed your week here as much as our members.

May I take this opportunity to wish you all the very best in your continuing career and I pray that the future may bring you all that you may wish for.

Very best wishes.

RBauer: Very kind words, Nigel. Thank you for having me.

MagicSamX: I would also like to offer my thanks, I did not post a question but enjoyed reading all the members questions and the responses, Thank you.

Sean: The others have pretty much said it all, but I'd like to add my thanks to you Ron. It was great of you to take time out to answer our questions, and all your answers have been very insightful. Thanks again, and good luck with your Private Studies series too

Michael Jay: Thank you for the time and effort that you've put into this interview RB and also I appreciate your willingness to stick around for an extended session. Much appreciated.

The forum is now locked and the information will be formatted into an interview, which will always have a place on our site, linked at the bottom called, "Guests." Also, this will be linked to your biography in the library.

Again, thank you RB!
