Peter Kessler

dk_the_magician: Or how about a reality talent show, where each performer has to do a trick a night, then people get to vote them off the show. You can have guests come in from the magical world and entertainment business to give advice.

Or how about a history show, tracing back some of the greats in magic here in the UK, life stories of magicians like Pat Page, Ali Bongo to name a few, with interviews and performance pieces.

Or a travel show, visiting all the best shows on earth, magic bars etc, anywhere where magic is performed regularly

MagicSamX: Good Plan Darren, That would be worth a watch.

Peter Kessler: Darren, the history show is, I understand, currently in production for the BBC. The reality and travel shows are both solid ideas worth pitching. They would depend heavily on getting a commissioning editor who's really in tune with magic. Heck, let's give it a go!

Westcountry: Does this mean that Darren gets a mention in the credits?

dk_the_magician: Peter, if you want more meat on the bones of the ideas contact me, I have done some thinking on the formats etc and was going to pitch the idea but as I have no idea about how TV works, I never bothered (story of my life).

Daleshrimpton: I also have a couple of ideas for shows. One, based on personal experience, and revolving around an allied art.

The other, stripping down an existing, and well-established non-magic show, but applying magic to it. Nether are studio based by the way, and both are relatively low budget projects. Also, spin off opportunities are there, so that different versions of the programmes could be produced, to appeal to differing age groups, although, the magic show would be aimed towards the family market.

I am being vague aren't I? (Sorry about that, but I suspect that the ideas are good ones.)

Drew: "Holiday: You call the shots" have been too a couple of magic bars and the magic museum place in Paris (I think it was in Paris, certainly France).

Regarding Huw's verbal manipulation ideas - you might like to check out "the art of deception" by Kevin Mitnick. Knowing your professional background Huw, I suspect you'll know who this is, but still - its a book I think you'll find fascinating. I actually produce/edit/shoot for York Student Television and whilst I'm yet to produce any magic related shows, I am buzzing with formats for magic shows! Magic can be added to a lot of existing formats to create what I think a lot of people would find very entertaining.

Daleshrimpton: Or there is this........http://www.magicbunny.co.uk/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=11601

Peter Kessler: Sorry about the delay in replying. I've been trying to get some particularly recalcitrant 'superstar' magicians to agree to let me license some of their material for use in my show (without much success so far unfortunately).

I'll happily look at the ideas that have been suggested over the next week or so and communicate directly with those responsible.

Chabang: So out of all the shows you've been involved in there must have been that one job your turned down (or that one presenter you didn't hire) which went on to be the hit of the year - what was it?

Peter Kessler: The Royle Family. My excuse is I knew it was going to be a hit, but I was in the middle of another programme at the time (a pilot that ended up not being commissioned) and didn't feel I could just up sticks and leave it.

Nigel Shelton: This is just to remind you that Peter's time will be coming to an end soon. If you have any burning questions, please get them posted by Saturday so that Peter may have an opportunity to respond before the end of the week.

This has been a thoroughly interesting week. It has been a delightful insight, investigating how the world of magic and the media tie together and I have certainly enjoyed reading the questions and replies of all the posts in this forum - I hope that you have too.

A very warm thank you to Peter for his input so far, to what has been a remarkable week of discussions on a thoroughly enjoyable theme; the media.

dk_the_magician: There was an interesting question raised about credit for ideas that peter has still not responded to, I would be interested to hear what Peter has to say, if a programme is commissioned from our ideas would we get a mention or even any cash for the idea?

Before you go Peter can you let us know??

Andy D: ................... Here is my account number: 1848838738 Barclay's bank Bath.

Peter Kessler : Sorry I haven't replied - been very busy.

If anything did come of the ideas suggested here, I would definitely discuss the appropriate credit and/or remuneration with the person involved. Every situation of this kind is different, but I am not and have never been one to nick someone else's ideas. I don't blame you for asking.

Nigel Shelton: I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Peter for what has been a fascinating insight into another facet of the world of magic – the role of the media.

This has indeed been a most enjoyable week and I have relished the opportunity of learning about the role of the media in this area and I have also found the ideas submitted by members to be most thought provoking. I do hope that these may inspire Peter in his work and who knows, perhaps in a year or two, you may even see some of these ideas on the small screen.

I know, myself, how much work is involved in becoming a “Special Guest” and attending to the threads that occur and so I would like to thank Peter for his time and input in providing a most fascinating week of threads in this forum. Thank you very much Peter for your input over the past seven days and I hope that you may have enjoyed it as much as those of us who have read through these threads.

mind_reader: Yes thank you. Although I had no question I enjoyed reading all the other questions and answers.

Sleightly Magical Tom: Similarly to Steve, although I did not ask any questions it was a real joy to read the posts you have written. Thank you very much.

MagicSamX: Thank you Peter, for the interesting and varied answers you gave and also thank you for taking time to talk to us.

Goonerjack: Thanks, it's been very interesting to read about your work and some good ideas have been discussed

Rich: I can only echo the above comments. I did not submit a question myself but your answers have been very insightful - thank you.
