A Link Please (and I don’t mean steel rings…)
Garethwitty: Hi me again, any chance of a link to your DVDs? I am sure this would make the sale figures higher.
As a wise man once said...
Geoff Williams: You can find the DVDs at most major magic outlets who distribute Murphy's Magic Supplies' offerings:
World of Magic
Hank Lee’s
Denny & Lee's Magic Studio
Williams' Magic & Novelties
If possible, I urge you to support your local magic shop.
Garethwitty: Oh I do mate, Magicbox as they are the best!
It’s not that local as there are only a few magic shops I know of in the UK. On my holiday in Las Vegas the wife and I went to many shops including Lance Burton’s Magic Shop.
I did try to pop into Denny and Lee’s shop, but run out of time.
Geoff Williams: Well, if you, or any of the other Magic Bunny regulars, ever get back to Las Vegas, don't miss dropping in on Gary Darwin's magic club that meets late every Wednesday night. Big name locals show up there all the time and it's great fun. All magicians are warmly welcomed.
British Magician
Magicman007: Geoff
Thanks for your answer to my previous question, here's another!
Are there any British magicians, past and present, that you respect/admire? I know that few of them are big in the States, so I won't be too surprised if there aren't any. I think the only British magician I've seen on an American TV special was Guy Hollingsworth, but I'm sure there have been others.
Geoff Williams: Certainly there are! You Britons have a rich magic heritage that we follow closely here in the states:
I am a HUGE fan of Terry Seabrooke (who was probably the 2nd or 3rd lecture I ever attended), Paul Daniels, David Berglas, Ali Bongo, Derren Brown, Nicholas Einhorn, Guy Hollingworth and Mark Shortland.
I have several treasured books by John Fisher and Patrick Page.
And we all miss Bob Read and Alex Elmsley so very much.
I'm sure many others will come to mind as soon as I log off.
Geoff
Hi Geoff
magic mike: Hi Geoff First off let me kick in by saying that I thoroughly enjoyed your DVD set. Pleeeeaase, (I know you're busy as I've read your previous posts) don't leave it too long before you do another, as I’m sure it will be a benefit to the Magic community. I've already incorporated some of the material into my walk round routines ...(Devastation really rocks!). I really must get rigged up for E A R! Anyhow enough babbling my question is what was the motivation for "Miracles for mortals"?
Geoff Williams: If you mean the making of the DVD set... I was approached last June by two gentlemen from Murphy's Magic Supplies while I was in Las Vegas. They asked me if I had more to show them (I had just appeared in a jam show there at LVMI and it went well), so I did a few more tricks and one of them turned to the other and said "This is the guy." Apparently, they were attending the convention to look for a new talent, someone who was relatively unknown but had some commercial material to offer.
They flew me to New York in August and we shot for 4 days. No one died. It was a successful shoot.
These guys gave me complete control, artistically and otherwise, over the entire project. I got to say what went on each disk. I even designed the artwork for the cover and the individual disks. I thought the title "Miracles For Mortals: Killer Magic For The Rest Of Us" was appropriate (and certainly better than "E-Z Magic That Won't Pull A Groin Muscle" which was the working title).
I know that a DVD release from a relatively (I.e., completely) unknown magician can get lost in the vast sea of daily DVD releases but opportunity knocked at the door and, after finding a suitable bathrobe and freshening my breath, I answered.
Kozmo: It would be nice if Geoff did another set of DVD's for Christmas this year wouldn't it.
Geoff Williams: Who are you...my producer?
:)
Kozmo: lol
Favourite Effects
Craig P: Hey Geoff
What effects, (other than your own) do you perform on a regular basis to real people, and out of all the material on your DVD set what are your top three favourites to perform in real conditions?
Thanks a bunch
Craig P
Geoff Williams: Not mine:
I absolutely adore David Roth's "Eraser Coin." Such a great visual!
For a real reputation-maker, it's hard to beat Al Schneider's original "Matrix" (forget most of the other versions with backfires, mutating to jumbo coins and ending with the Vernet Ball Climax and kabuki streamers). Angle problems and no close-up pad? No problem, perform it on a carpeted floor with borrowed cards and coins. A real shocker if done slowly with no funky moves.
Dan Harlan's "Travelling Cash" always gets a great reaction (I use a shoelace rather than a folded dollar bill).
Onstage, I always include David Williamson's Ring & Rope routine as well as Steve Bedwell's marvellous "In Over Your Head."
My top 3 faves from the "Miracles For Mortals" set? This is going to be tough...I guess it depends on the situation:
Impromptu cards:
Prepared cards:
For kids:
Hairballs
The Hat Trick
Miracle Coin Vanish
Most fun (for me) to perform:
Everything's A Radio
The Omega Bet
Hairballs
Most challenging:
4-Way Coincidence (you have to think on your feet)
Uploopted (invisible thread is always finicky)
Flurious Jr. (hardcore manip stuff)
But if I was pressed to keep only three (1 card, 1 coin, 1 other):
Devastation
Miracle Coin Vanish
Everything's A Radio
